Building an indie business, and the center of venture capital. I am Alex Edmonds, also known as supremerumham, on the internet. And this is the building in the business podcast. Okay. So today I'm gonna be talking about the revenue calculator that I built. I'm gonna be talking about how I built it. The search terms around it, who's searching for why I chose this as a lead magnet for revenue research on what I'm. What I still need to add to it. The problems that I might run into. And that's about it. So, let's get into it. So I built this. And first of all, JavaScript, CSS, HTML on vanilla. So that was pretty cool. I used to have a YouTube video. And then I added my own stuff to it as well. So yeah, pretty simple. So I'm using this as a lead magnet for revenue research. Um, I wanted to use this as a lead magnet, so that I get traffic from search. And just like an idea I have in my head that I can have multiple lead magnets not just one. So I can have one for search. And then one for people that are viewing my articles. Yeah, and I can test them out. So like, um, so I chose to title, the revenue calculator as total revenue calculator, because our total revenue calculator gets 1600 searches a month. So, it might I might be able to rank quicker for that search term, then revenue calculator, which is 6600 searches a month, but I can still rank for revenue calculator, right. So, because that has a greater great amount of searches for like a good a decent amount of searches that I can rank for that. That word that phrase, um, that's why I'm doing this one as my lead magnet for search. I'm still testing out my lead magnet for the young. The other people. The people that find my articles. So yeah, right. So, who do I think is searching for a revenue calculator. What I'm hoping it is. I'm hoping it's creators that need to monetize. I need help monetizing their content. I looked it up. And right now revenue calculator, it's like, it's a little bit students at the bottom of the page, and then it's like, yes creators. And then there's the middle where it's like business owners, so I don't know, business owners is like people that own a bakery, or people that have a website. So, there that might make a difference right there. Right. So, if I start getting views. And those people don't sign up. I'm gonna have to change the, you know, I'm gonna have to change the calculator, or if I get signups. But those people unsubscribe when they get the first newsletter. That's another thing. My thought would be to change it to an investment calculator, because I want to target business owners and investors. So, that's what I can do. anglet, in terms of investment. Um, I can do like a capital gains are maybe a profit calculator, or I can just change my audience, all say other, and target those early retirement people the financial independence retire early. People fire, as they're known as, that's something to think about. I could change the content through like build businesses, no grow. Build revenue to retire early. That's something I could. And then like, this is how this industry makes revenue and you can do this too. Right. Okay, so that's on top. So, are in the lead magnet episode. I talked about, about 10 different lead magnets magnets. So, why this lead magnet. Um, interesting question. Um, mostly because this is, this has decent traffic altogether. It's 8000 searches a month, almost right 15 plus 66. Right. So, that will lead me to get some decent traffic, until I can find another source that has, you know, 1000 searches a month. Not combined, right, because 1000 searches a month is a little too high for me with my new website. So, yeah. And right now I couldn't, I can't think of a written lead magnet that I can use like I did for open podcast. So that's another thing. This was pretty simple to do in JavaScript and one took me like an hour, and I was able to add my own idea. So, instead of just calculating how many customers you have, and the amount you're charging. I split it. I split it into arm. b2b customers and b2c customers, instead of just having customers all together. I'm still going to add a little bit more and I'll talk about that later. So another idea I had was to use a community as a lead magnet. But I need members to provide value to the subscribers. So I need to first fill it with friends. And then I need to, like, moderate, the community and create conversation in there, like I did with open podcast. So, that can't be a lead magnet right away. I need to build it up first. Another thing that I like about the calculator is it's very automated. It's one and done, I don't need to change anything. Once the full product is built on like a community that needs to be seated or PDFs that need to be created for each one. And then I talked about a checklist and the checklist is a bit random, I don't know if it'll provide value to someone, but I know a calculator will because that's what someone is searching for. No one's searching for like a revenue checklist. They might annually check. Then I also had the idea for podcasts or the first the first lead magnet that I had was a checklist, or no was a podcast and I'm not sure if the podcasts will provide value to a newsletter audience because they might not listen to podcasts, because their readers. Okay. So, What am I going to add Next, I want to add an MRR calculation. I didn't know if I had the right. Um, acronym, I get MMR and, yeah, Mr. And, Mr are mixed up. That's why I paused. After I said, Mr. So monthly recurring revenue calculation. And the reason are how I'm going to do this, is I'm going to divide the total amount that they hit by 12. Yes. And then I want to add the b2b and b2c calculation together. And the way I do this is, add the two functions together that I have for b2b and b2c. Right. So yeah, okay, the problems that I'm gonna have with this revenue calculator. Okay. It's gonna take some time to pay off. This is very SEO relying and SEO kicks in, in about four to six months. And I've had the domain of revenue research since about October, maybe late September. So that leads me to March, where the revenue or no, the SEO will kick in, definitely. Right. Okay, so my next problem is that people that are searching for the revenue calculator might not have the interest and the content, and they only want the calculator. So, that way. I will not be getting a lot of subscribers, and it'll be a waste of time on that. I won't, it won't, the ROI, will not be as great as I thought it was it won't be a waste of time. Right. Okay. And then, 6000 searches might be too many. I might have difficulty ranking on the first page, which defeats the whole purpose of having the revenue calculator, right, because if no one can search for it. Then I won't be getting subscribers. Right. And then I think it's too specific. So what I mean by that is, those people that search for the revenue calculator, are not looking for something ambiguous. And that goes back to it. People might only have an interest in the calculator, not the content. They might just bounce, once they get the calculator. Not even bother subscribing. Right. Another problem I have is that students might be looking it up, and that's not my audience. So, when I went to the bottom of the first page of revenue calculator. I noticed that there was like some, some things about like classes or different types of calculators for students. So, that might mean that students are looking it up for their classes. I don't know, but that's not my audience. So that's a bummer. Finally, the last thing I'm going to say is that my last problem is I need to target investors too, because that's the other audience I want to target for the content. So I need to figure out how I can also target investors through a total revenue calculator, or just like how to word it for investors. No. So, yeah. Okay. Thank you for listening. Have a nice day.
